environment to facilitate private investment. Both interviewees stress that it is important to demonstrate to those African countries that have not yet developed a private equity industry how the best-performing countries have managed it.
“We have a pan-African lens, which means that we can see the best practices in regulation and policy across the di erent regions,” says Mustapha-Maduakor. “With the emergence of local associations in
African countries – a testament to a maturing industry – we can support new associations by sharing best practices to develop private equity in Africa.”
Obasanjo-Adeleye explains that AVCA’s research shows that regional hubs of countries with harmonised regulations and currency enjoy great bene ts. She points
to the West African Francophone countries with a single currency as a good example of a regional bloc attracting greater investor interest.
