32 ABN SPEAKS TO.. | AVCA The African private equity
(PE) industry continues to
grow, despite the various macroeconomic challenges
that emerge as the continent increasingly becomes an attractive investment destination, such as political instability
and informal regulatory environments. The African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) is the pan-African industry body with a mission to promote private equity investment across Africa. ABN speaks to AVCA to shed light on the role of the industry association and what the future holds for African private equity.
“Our role is to shape the industry and create an environment for private equity to grow
in Africa,” begins AVCA’s chief operating o cer, Abi Mustapha-Maduakor. “We want to demystify Africa by showcasing the exciting investment opportunities available across the continent, and encourage international investors to look to Africa for tremendous returns.”
The organisation has four key pillars through which it drives investment towards Africa. The  rst and foremost is its research division, which undertakes critical data collection
to track the full spectrum of private equity activity in Africa. The in-house research desk builds data and reports which are regarded
